  • Question No.1

    Hello,

What do you do to guarantee the safety of your products?

    Regards,
    Pierre M. from Nantes

    Answer :

     Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in our products. Oxylane* has always been extremely attentive and demanding regarding the quality of its in house Passion Brands products.

A commitment to quality means designing and manufacturing products that meet athletes' needs, that last, and that guarantee high level of harmlessness. To achieve this, we have deployed solid and monitored actions.

Since March 1998, we decided to exclude textile and leather dyes and treatments that pose a health risk from all our Passion Brand products.

We also ask independent laboratories to run close to 15,000 chemical tests each year on products, direct from the production line or picked from stores.

Oxylane Group works with direct suppliers, in France and elsewhere: this means our teams are regularly present on-site with suppliers. For example, in China, over 600 people work on the quality inspection and control of Passion Brand products.

    Sporting regards,

Delphine D, chemicals engineer, Villeneuve d'Ascq

  • Question No.2
    Hello,
I recently bought a fleece for my 2-year old daughter from your stores. Can she wear it in direct contact with her skin?
What actions does Decathlon have to prevent allergy risks?
    Regards,
    Mrs. Audrey C. from Reims

    Answer :

    Dear Mrs. C,

Thank you for your interest in our products. You can be assured of the quality and safety of components used to manufacture Passion Brand products.

Baby products (ages 6 months to 3 yrs) are subject to particularly tough controls and procedures.

We have prohibited the use of 10 phthalates in our baby textile products.  Phthalates are plasticizers used to soften some plastics, and may harm fertility.
For information, European legislation bans the use of 6 of these products, and for toys and baby care products only.

Furthermore, the components we use in our baby products undergo chemical testing to confirm the absence of carcinogenic dyes, allergens, formaldehyde, heavy metals and phthalates (or to ensure maximum limits are observed). All these products are then re-tested after manufacture.

    Sporting regards,
Delphine D, chemicals engineer, Villeneuve d'Ascq

  • Question No.3
    Hello,
Do you use any toxic fungicide treatments?
I've heard about dimethylfumarate used in packaging for footwear and sofas...
    Thank you for your reply,
    Franck P. Valence

    Answer :

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in our products. You can be assured that we do not use any dimethylfumarate or related fungicide treatments.

We have taken steps to ensure our footwear and furniture suppliers in Asia do not use these products.

For articles more susceptible to mould, we sometimes use a non-toxic sachet of silica gel, which absorbs moisture in the packaging during transport.

    Sporting regards,
Delphine D, chemicals engineer, Villeneuve d'Ascq

  • Question No.4
    Hello,
I just heard about potential safety issues with water bottles, where the lining might contain a chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA).
Can you tell me if this is the case for Quechua water bottles?
    Please reply soon.
    Regards,
    Mrs. S.B

    Answer :

    Dear Mrs. B,

Since early 2009, all Quechua aluminium bottles are manufactured with an inner lining containing 0% BPA. The 0% BPA indication is shown on the sticker with the product barcode, which also has the traceability code.

You can also check by looking inside the bottle: if the coating seems uneven, with "runs" or "dribbles", then it is a 0% BPA coating. If it has a smooth, consistent surface, then it dates from the previous year.

Please note also that bottles manufactured in previous years meet the requirements of current legislation: they passed food contact tests carried out by an approved independent laboratory, in particular a BPA transfer test.

As a precaution, and for our users' peace of mind, we decided in 2009 to choose 0% BPA coatings for Quechua aluminium water bottles. It's worth noting that at present, there is no European directive based on official studies to eliminate the use of BPA.

    Sporting regards,
Delphine D, chemicals engineer, Villeneuve d'Ascq
