Warm and light garments

Question No.1
I'm going hiking this winter and I'd like to know what garments are suitable for really cold weatherAnswer :
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our products Stratermic.
So you're looking for garments suitable for extreme cold? I suggest the Quechua Forclaz 800 jacket (with feather and down wadding), or Quechua Forclaz 800M (polyester wadding). Your final choice will depend on how much sport you'll be doing (intense or not), and how much freedom of movement you require.
Generally speaking, a Stratermic-labelled jacket (down or wadding) will be fine for cold weather. If you're expecting really cold temperatures, choose a down jacket, or high density polyester wadding (above 200g).

Question No.2
How can I wash my goose down jacket without damaging it?Answer :
Hello,
Thank you for your question.
To ensure the best care for your down jacket you need take extra care with drying. Machine wash at 30°C on a normal cycle. It's best to tumble dry down garments. If you don't have a tumble dryer, line dry your garment and remember to shake it out several times to redistribute the down.
It is very important to be sure the down is fully dry before you put the jacket away (store in a dry place).

Question No.3
What treatments are used on down and feathers to ensure perfect hygiene?Answer :
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
Stratermic down and feathers undergo washing processes during manufacture to guarantee excellent hygiene and insulating properties.
Down is washed then dried in an industrial tumbler at very high temperatures. This removes all dirt and contaminants, and fluffs up the down.
The raw material also undergoes a veterinary inspection.
At the end of manufacture, each batch is subject to microbiological inspections and controls on composition and thermal properties.

Question No.4
Should I wear glove liners with my winter gloves?Answer :
Hello,
Thanks for your question.
Wearing glove liners under your gloves or mitts doesn't improve the thermal insulation. But it will mean that, whenever you need to remove your gloves/mitts, the liners will provide insulation and your fingers will be warmer than without (handy when you stop for a spot of lunch, or to put the kids' hats on - no frozen hands).

Question No.5
Are socks with individual toes warmer than standard socks?Answer :
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our products.
"Toe" socks, compared with normal socks with exactly the same composition and assembly, aren't any warmer. However, "toe" socks do help to reduce blisters and offer more freedom of movement.

Question No.6
Late February/early March I'm travelling to the west coast of Greenland. Do you have any textile that's suitable for extreme cold (sleeping outdoors under canvas)?Answer :
Hello,
The key to preparing a big trip like this one is to have the right clothing strategy.
You'll find guidelines on how to use layers here:
http://www.stratermic.com/EN/equarea-stratermic-novadry-21850021/To cope with extreme cold, you'll need layer 2, which is the layer worn between your base layer and your overcoat. Fleeces, soft-shells (windproof fleeces) or gilets from Quechua with Stratermic technology will, from this winter, have use limit temperatures on the labelling. You'll also find this information on www.stratermic.com.
You'll need to choose your jacket carefully. Down/feather jackets are better than synthetic jackets, because they're much warmer. All these products are available in store, just ask a sales assistant about how to combine the layers to the best effect.
For nights under canvas, look for high-altitude mountaineering down textiles (Quechua has a specific range).

DID YOU KNOW?

- Washing at 20° or 30°C is effective
dirt is removed even in a cold wash. And more often than not, clothes are only lightly soiled. For heavily soiled laundry, or hard-to-remove stains (such as oil, grass or mud), wash slightly hotter.
